Crail Village - Shops in the Village

Leave the car and set off on foot! Crail is a small village and it's just as easy to walk. All you need to self-cater is available locally. It's local half-day closing on Wednesday, but not all shops close. Some of the shops still observe a lunch hour, usually between 1 pm and 2 pm. During the summer some are open longer hours. The two convenience stores are open late in the evenings (usually until around 10 pm).

Penman's - Butcher Shop

The local butcher in Crail, where you can buy a wide variety of different types of meat. They are famous for their sausages, and if you're thinking of barbecuing, then this is the place to come - the pork sausages are delicious, but spicy chilli sausages and lots of different burgers are worth trying too. Try some of the prepared meats - seasonal variations include such items as chicken breasts with lemon pepper, chicken stuffed with haggis and wrapped in bacon, Chinese-style pork. Ask Ronnie or Keith for their advice.

You'll also find Scottish specialities like Scotch Pies.

Penmans also stock some tinned goods, jars of special pickles, chutneys and jams, pasta, sauces.

First Fruits - Greengrocer

The greengrocer in Crail sources many of the vegetables locally, so they're fresh and tasty. A wide variety of fruit is also stocked with local strawberries and raspberries being particularly delicious in season. You'll also find fresh flowers and eggs for sale, and dried pulses and vegetables for making soup.

If you've forgotten your toothbrush - don't worry, you can buy a new one here! Also dispenses prescription medicines, sells suntan lotion (yes, you may need it!), and a range of pharmacy and toiletry items.

The Beehive

For those whose holiday money is burning a hole in their pockets - the Beehive is the place to spend it! You'll find ice cream, sweets, and toys here. There is also a craft section where the artistic visitor can find oil paints, watercolours, knitting wools, patterns and needles. If you want to take up birdwatching, then there are binoculars on sale. Good range of greetings cards, postcards, gift items too.

 

Post Office

We're lucky still to have a sub-Post Office in Crail, where you can buy stamps, postcards, greeting cards, gifts and the usual Post Office services.

 
 
 
 

Borella's Fish & Chip Shop

Fresh local fish cooked to order here and served as a 'fish supper' with a portion of piping hot chips. Lots of other items available, and all cooked to order - there's a pizza oven too so you can order your own toppings and have an Italian-style pizza. Be prepared for a queue in the summer months - it's not usually as long as the wait at the Anstruther Fish Bar, and you'll be able to take it back to your holiday home still nice and hot.

Co-op

There's a cash dispenser at the Co-op in Crail. The Co-op is a convenience store which is licensed for the sale of beers, wines and spirits. You'll also find bakery goods, milk, canned items, pet food, etc.
