Crail Village - Parks & Beaches
With a young family, a trip to the swing park can often provide sufficient diversion to fill a morning or afternoon, and we're lucky in Crail to have two parks suitable for young children, both within walking distance of the cottage. The park at Roome Bay is described in it's own page, but there is another park by Crail Primary School which is useful in that a visit there can be combined with a walk to the shops to buy lunch or ice creams. If you are following the road there, you need to cross the main road by the Golf Hotel and head in the direction of St Andrews. The park is on the left hand side of the road, just off Bowling Green Lane.
The equipment in the park was added to and the older pieces refurbished in 2003, and there are swings, slides, a roundabout, see-saw and rocking horse. In 2006 skating ramps were added to the park, so it's a good place to go if you've remembered to pack your skate board or roller blades.
On the opposite side of the main road, you'll find Beech Walk Park which is an open grassy space suitable for playing ball games, and where there is a football pitch marked out.
In addition to the rocky cove at Roome Bay, there is a sandy beach beyond Crail Harbour which is a sheltered spot on sunny days. It's not a huge beach, but it slopes gently to the sea and is probably quite sufficient for younger children who are happy to have a gentle paddle and a bit of sand-pie making.
